Botswana safari part 1
Last month, I was finally able to make a long delayed trip to Botswana to safari with Pangolin Photo Safaris.
Pangolin is different from other safaris in that they concentrate on what photographers want. Not merely a passing glimpse of the big 5 in Africa but instead sticking around to get great photos.
Their vehicles are optimized for photography be they by boat or jeep. All are staffed by drivers and professional wildlife photographers. On this excellent trip, this was a little of what I saw.

At another time, we came across a satisfied bee-eater. He looks rather plump as he was resting after its meal.

There were plenty of hippopotamus during our trip. This is one taking a look around while another blows water in his face.

The river Chobe is famous for a large number of elephants. A great thing as there were many chances for excellent photographs of the same.

Jacana birds have an interesting nickname. The Jesus bird – as they almost seem to walk on water. The reality is that with their large feet, they are able to stride across lilies. During April when we were visiting, it was the annual birthing season for jacanas. Here is one baby huddling in the coat of its father to warm up on a cold early morning.

There were plenty of monkeys during our trip and we found out there is a reason for the saying “monkeying around”. As when there isn’t a nearby branch to grab, this monkey decided to use someone else’s tail.

The gestation for a baby elephant is 22 months. Perhaps that goes a way to explaining the protectiveness of mum for her kid.

An example of other beautiful birds on the river was this lilac breast roller. Here he is coming in for landing.

Although hippos usually hang out in groups known as pods, this was one was by himself. As our guide gleefully informed us, three hippos is known as a tripod. One is an ipod.

After so much excitement at the end of the day as we traveled home for dinner and bed, we also felt like this African fish eagle – watching the last rays of sunlight for a last parting shot.
