At the end of last year, I disappeared into a place with no mobile phone reception for a month. No, that wasn’t Antarctica, it was Nepal.
So this is how my father and I ended up doing something we had always wanted to do. Visiting Nepal, land of some of the highest mountains in the world. Trekking the Annapurna trek, a 230km trek rising to 5416m at its highest point. Home of towering mountains, verdant foliage and the one horned rhino, this was a place of discovery and contrasts. Here are my 3000 shots distilled down into the essentials.
Here are some quick snap shots of the start in Kathmandu before we hit the start of the 18 day hiking trail at Beisisahar. These photos chart the lower altitudes. My photo series will be a collection of 4 posts.
Kathmandu – rickshaws all ready for action
The streets of Kathmandu where you can buy almost anything.. Just name your price
The start of our Annapuna trek
It started with some rather barren dirt tracks
Alternated between fields with friendly natives
And carefully marked accommodation, just in case you didn’t know where you were going
Several days later we had a chance to look at how far we had come
And the manifold terraced fields
But we always kept an eye out to not get stampeded by the ponies
Or the sheep
It was hard to keep our eyes on the road as there were many things to distract us
Long, majestic suspension bridges
Valleys pierced by beams of light
Tranquil streams
Gentle waterfalls
And roaring rivers
Sleeping dogs
Watchful roosters
Beautiful landscapes
And the establishments of man at the end of a long day
